About Integrative Management Solutions, LLC (IMS)
Before starting Integrative Management Solutions, I was a nonprofit executive. I have a passion for working for a cause, not just profit. People used to ask me, “What nonprofits do you support?” My answer: “All of them!” I have always been interested in the operations of nonprofits. I focused my Doctorate of Management and Organizational Leadership dissertation on strategic planning in nonprofits. In 2016 when I started my business, nonprofits were my focus.
However, during my time as the interim Executive Director for the Maryland Black Chamber of Commerce, I found that the voices of Black, minority, and female business owners were not being heard. That struck a chord. I realized I had a credible, influential voice that could also serve small business owners and make a difference. So my focus shifted a bit.
Today, IMS serves small and mid-sized organizations, local and State governments, and nonprofit organizations, with a targeted focus on Black, minority, and female businesses.
My expertise lies in business process improvement, strategic and operations management, and nonprofit management. In a consulting capacity working with clients, we provide sustainable solutions that address their unique challenges. We listen to learn and understand the challenges. We ask a LOT of questions to get clarity. Then we have candid conversations to consider options, possibilities, and solutions that address the client’s needs. By discovering the underlying root causes of the business challenges, we help them become whole by working through those roadblocks and developing a plan.
We don’t buy into cookie-cutter solutions. What sets us apart from our competitors is that we don’t subscribe to just one management methodology or tool. We build integrated solutions that improve, minimize or resolve challenges while meeting the client’s individual needs. More importantly, our sustainable solutions allow our clients to build on the success of their businesses.
What's New For Your Business?
Starting in November 2022, IMS is partnering with the Montgomery County Black Collective to launch a business coaching and technical assistance program. The AMBER Program (All Businesses Excelling in Real-Time) will be open to minority, female, and disabled (MFD) businesses. The program aims to guide, support, and create accountability for business owners to improve operations by setting and working toward short-term goals. Participants accepted in the program will have their businesses assessed to establish a baseline for their business operations. During the program, participants will improve their operations and leave with a clear understanding and plan to continue improving their business.
We know there are many workshops, training, and small business programs in the community. The AMBER Program stands out in that it starts with the current state of the business, monitors the business improvements, and demonstrates through reiterative assessments the improvement in the business’s operations. Participants don’t learn best practices for improving a business. Participants walk about how to instill best practices in their businesses. By transforming MFD businesses, the AMBER Program will position MFD businesses to be better prepared to conduct business in Montogomery County and beyond.
Which MoCo Resources Have You Used in Building Your Business?
I utilized just about ALL the Montgomery County and State of Maryland resources for helping nascent businesses. When I first opened, I had the privilege of taking the first 6 months of my business existence to learn how to conduct business in Montgomery County. I took advantage of SBA (U.S. Small Business Administration) programs and workshops, including Maryland SBDC (Small Business Development Center) workshops, MWBC (Maryland Women’s Business Center) training, and WBENC (Women’s Business Enterprise National Council) seminars and conference. I also attended many outreach and networking opportunities.
I increased the credibility of my firm by getting certified as a Black, women-owned small business. My certifications include LSBRP (Local Small Business Reserve Program – MoCo), MFD (Minority, Female and Disabled-Owned Businesses), and MBE/DBE/SBE certified (Maryland Department of Transportation. I learned that being certified may increase or improve your position when applying for grants or going after certain contracts,
